Moyes has a point to prove at West Ham

After the sacking of Slaven Bilic, David Moyes is under no illusion that the start of his West Ham career will be plain sailing

Appointment

After being announced as the latest manager to take over the reins at West Ham United, David Moyes addressed his appointment by stating that he has a point to prove. His last managerial role came at Sunderland, a job which he resigned from after just 10 months. He has since been out of work and is looking to repair his reputation, and that of the Hammers who sit in the relegation zone.

Moyes’ biggest achievements so far, happened during his 11-year stay at Everton where he was voted the LMA Manager of the Year three times, after helping the Toffees finish in the top eight a total of nine times. He then left Everton to manage Manchester United, after being personally chosen by retiring manager Alex Ferguson. However, his stint didn’t last long with United fans, and club executives frustrated with the team’s performance. Although he signed a six-year deal when joining the team, he was sacked after less than a year in charge http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/27107795.

Short-term plan

However, Moyes is confident that he has what it takes to make a difference at West Ham, stating that he loves what he is doing. He also expressed his need for the team, and himself, to do well, even though the Hammers have not had the best start to the season. Moyes recognises that there is a lot of work to be done, and with a strong squad of players, he believes the starting point should be building a better defensive structure which can help create clean sheets.

With plenty of managerial experience, Moyes will certainly have his own set of tactics, including soccer drill videos like those found here https://www.sportplan.net/drills/Soccer/drills.jsp to get what he wants out of the team. He believes that winning football games is the most important thing, followed by the style. He acknowledges that his ambition is short-term as his main focus is simply on winning but he does want the football to be entertaining.

With the appointment of Moyes, West Ham fans are praying that he can help the team survive the drop zone and hold on to their position in the Premier League.
